The year has got off to a sad start with the departure of Georges Duboeuf, Jean-Claude Bachelet and Michel Lafarge.
I saw Michel just before Christmas and he was in fine form. Then when I was in Hong Kong I heard from his granddaughter Clothilde, who was representing the domaine at various tastings, that Michel had had a bad fall and the outlook was not good.
I will pay a special tribute to this most extraordinary man in an upcoming report of a vertical of the domaine’s Volnay Clos des Chênes held in Burgundy in November.
