Lighter, fine-boned reds to the south; deeply coloured powerful wines with sturdy tannins in the centre, and a thrilling concentration of Nuits St Georges weight and some of the heady qualities of Vosne-Romanée to the north. Nuits deserves more love and can be excellent value.
