So what happened to the rain? For once the vignerons were desperately hoping for some instead of praying for it to stay away. At one point the remnants of the Caribbean hurricanes were expected to reach France and Burgundy early in the week.
But, the weather has stayed resolutely rainless and cloudless, indeed really quite hot over the weekend. The north wind is due to return later this week and bring temperatures back down again, for which pickers will be thankful.
There is the usual dialogue between those who like to pick early and the late pickers. At the Hospices de Beaune the main harvest for whites started on Monday 9th September, with change over day to the first reds happening on Thursday 12th.
The Côte de Nuits and Chablis will be getting under way this week.
