Marthe Henry Boillot
Updated Sep 2022
Marthe Henry Boillot is the granddaughter of Pierre Boillot, a well-known figure in Meursault from the start of his vigneron career in the 1940s, when he pioneered a prototype of the now standard tracteur enjambeur to his death in 2004. Marthe’s parents moved to Paris (her father Yves is a noted classical pianist) and did not encourage Marthe to return to the vines. But after working as a journalist she returned to Meursault in 2013 and has started a small négociant program while waiting to get back some family vineyards in 2023 (Bourgogne, Meursault Charmes and Gouttes d’Or, Volnay Santenots-du-Milieu).
The wines stay in barrel for up to 18 months, unracked and only sulphured if deemed necessary, though they will be protected at the bottling. The reds are made retaining the stems. The first vintages suggest that Marthe will produce interesting, characterful wines.
