François Mikulski
Updated Sep 2022
François Mikulski worked with his uncle, Pierre Boillot, from 1984 to 1991, then took over the domaine, subsequently moving to premises down on the main road by the Hôpital de Meursault. His son-in-law, Thomas Boccon, joined him in 2011 and is now a co-director.
In the next few years some of the vineyards will go to Marthe Henry Boillot, as the family inheritance plays out, but François and Thomas have been adding to their vineyard holdings in anticipation, and have also taken on some of the Meursault and Monthelie vines of Eric Boussey.
Production is slightly balanced in favour of the whites. These are now pressed directly, without crushing, and then fermented and aged in barrel, frequently of larger sizes, without much emphasis of new oak. There are usually two cuvées of Meursault Charmes, as the produce of the really ancient vines (planted 1913) is vinified and bottled separately.
The red grapes are destemmed and have earned a very good following, not least for the Volnay Santenots. Both colours spend 12 months in barrel before being racked to tank and bottled early the following year.
