Domaine Jean-Marc Millot

The ebullient Alix Millot has been making the wines in succession to her father Jean-Marc since 2016, though he is still very much in evidence in a supporting role. Alix is one of the young Burgundians born in the late 1980s who are providing a dynamic resurgence to an already flourishing Burgundy.

The wines are made in a recently developed winery in Nuits-St-Georges. The grapes are destemmed, passed across the sorting table, given a cold soak but overall a relatively short time in vat of around 15 days, with pumping over more than punching down. The new wines are then left to settled for 15 days before being sent to barrel without intervention until bottling.

She uses 20% new wood for village and 1er cru wines, typically 30% for the grands crus, and aims for a light hand on extraction. The Savigny and Côte de Nuits Villages vineyards come from her paternal grandfather, while her maternal grandfather, Henri Gouroux, had the Vosne-Romanée vineyards. The Clos de Vougeot is from the Grand Maupertui sector, and labelled as such, while a couple of barrels from the oldest vines (planted in 1949) of their Echezeaux are now bottled separately.
