Our site is dedicated to everything about the wines of Burgundy. It complements Jasper’s book, Inside Burgundy, which is a mine of information about the region, the vineyards and the producers.
The website offers up to the minute insights into what is happening in Burgundy today, and extensive reviews of wines past and present. The aim is to provide information and to give guidance on which wines are worth buying. For this we have designed our double-headed scoring system: Absolute Scoring on the 100 Point Scale and Comparative Grading out of 5 stars – see the introduction to JMIB Tasting Notes for full details.

Jasper Morris MW
I have been working with wine since 1979. It didn’t take long for my enthusiasm for Burgundy to come to the fore as our company, Morris & Verdin Ltd, became known as the UK’s leading Burgundy importer during the 1990s. We sold the company to Berry Bros & Rudd in 2003, where I remained happily as Burgundy buyer and Director until retirement in 2017.
Along the way I became a Master of Wine in 1985 and published Inside Burgundy, first and second editions, becoming the only two time winner of the André Simon prize, in 2010 and 2021. (click here for more info on inside Burgundy – second edition)
Having retired from commerce I have embarked on a new career as Burgundy expert and critic, culminating in the launch of Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy in September 2018.

Jane Skillton MW
Jane began her wine career in London in 1985, winning various scholarships at Diploma level before going on to pass the Master of Wine (MW) examination in 1993, while working for Morris & Verdin Ltd.
In 2006 she moved to New Zealand, founding the NZ School of Wines and Spirits in 2006, since then she has developed a highly respected reputation for her educational programmes including delivering WSET courses. Jane has been a guest international judge in numerous locations in Australia, as well as Shanghai, Chengdu, Beijing, Tokyo and London.
Should you wish to share wine time with Jane, she informs us that she does not have any dietary requirements but isn’t overly fond of marzipan.

Tom Kline
Having grown up in Australia’s King Valley wine region with a Burgundy obsessed wine educator father, Tom caught the wine bug early. He began his career in the world of importing and distribution culminating in a role as the Victorian State Sales Manager for leading fine wine importer, Bibendum Wine Co.
Now, Tom contributes to the likes of Decanter Magazine, Wine Spectator, and Halliday Magazine as well as various other publications in Australia and abroad. He is on the reviewing team for winepilot.com.au, is a wine show judge, and is also a WSET educator and author of consumer-facing wine courses. In 2023, Tom was announced as the winner of the ‘Best Published Feature Article or Wine Column’ at the prestigious Wine Communicator Awards held by Wine Communicators of Australia.

Steve Pritchard
A self-confessed Champagne geek, Steve Pritchard has been tasting and enjoying these sparkling beverages for over 20 years, sampling over 3000 Champagnes in the process. Visiting the region several times a year, Steve has a very thorough knowledge of the region and its producers. He is constantly engaging with growers and grand marques alike to explore and further his intimate knowledge of all aspects of Champagne production, with a keen eye to how their various production techniques can influence the outcome of their wines.
Originally from an analytical IT background, Steve has been a Champagne educator for over a decade, conducting one-to-one tutoring sessions as well as presenting larger master classes.

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy aims to maintain the highest standards of integrity and relies on subscriptions and payment for specific services (see below). Advertising in any form is not accepted.
Financial Involvement: Producers
No financial reward or benefit in kind will be accepted from any producer in return for reviews of their wines or any other service. Individual sample bottles for review may though be accepted and will be used solely for that purpose.
Hospitality will not be accepted except for an occasional meal, while away from home tasting. Some domaine verticals may be presented by producers over the course of a meal.
My only financial involvement with any producer is a part share in a vineyard, Beaune 1er Cru Pertuisots, managed and made by Jean-Yves Devevey. This wine will not be reviewed in Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy.
I also work with Christie's to promote the wines of the Hospices de Beaune, in advance of the auction in November each year. No Hospices de Beaune wines will be reviewed on this site.
