Chassagne-Montrachet is currently one of the most exciting villages in the Côte d’Or, with considerable choice among the established families of the village, even more so now as new generations emerge and families bifurcate. This has been a steady development over the last decade or more, not a sudden changing of the guard.

The purpose of this tasting, over dinner at the Michelin ** Arbor restaurant in Central Hong Kong, was to take a good look at some of the challengers to the long-established classic domaines. Of course, several other names could have been included at the same level as those that we did taste. We were certainly not disappointed by the wines we did have, apart from a couple which had been let down by their corks. We were fortunate also that most of the wines came from the finest of the Chassagne 1ers Crus, along the upper slopes of the village itself or else, like Vide Bourse and Blanchot-Dessus, adjacent to the Grands Crus.
