See here for my full overview of what the 2022 vintage in the Côte d’Or has to offer: weather conditions through the year, the harvest, the style of the wines, and what is happening in the market place.

Santenay & Maranges
At this end of the Côte d’Or there tends to be a little extra humidity from the presence of both river and canal – a help in 2020 and again in 2022, a hindrance in 2021. Santenay has some of the most complex soils of the whole Côte, and is one of the few villages formerly almost entirely planted in pinot noir where chardonnay can thrive to make interesting wines. Maranges remains off many people’s radar which is a shame. The whites are rarely very interesting, but there are several red wine vineyards which have captured my imagination.
I was pleased to revisit Fiona Leroy after a gap, and to make a first acquaintance of Domaine de la Cassiopée. The vineyards are less expensive in this part of the world, making it possible for new entrants to establish themselves here at a fraction of the cost of more famous villages further up the Côte.
