This wine is the top tier of Arnould’s three rosé presentations. Arnould’s basic rosé cuvée uses an “assemblage” process (i.e., adding red wine to the blended champagne to give color), while this wine and fleur are made using the maceration method. The debate on nuances and the relative qualities of each method is not appropriate here, yet I do find “saignée” to be superior for Arnould. The only vintage-dated rosé in the range, the ripe 2018 suits the style well, while the extended lees aging (versus the other rosé wines) adds an extra layer of depth, finesse, and complexity. The wine possesses a melange of chewy Pinot fruit, accented with bitter cherry and sweet cranberry. The discreet fatness fades as the wine warms in the glass and complexity builds. Very good indeed.
