Clive Coates MW (1941-2022)
The wines for this tasting come from the cellar of the late Clive Coates, Master of Wine and pre-eminent author, especially about the wines of Burgundy. He was the giant on whose shoulders others have since stood. Clive had an astonishingly deep knowledge of and affection for the wines and vignerons of Burgundy, as is shown in his books –

Clive was generous with his knowledge and his cellar. He left behind some gems mostly from the great 1999 vintage, which he had purchased directly from the domaines, or from their importers, at the first opportunity, and they have been perfectly looked after in a temperature controlled cellar in France ever since, until shipment to Hong Kong in late 2023.
